Overview
As its name suggests, the Audi A4 Allroad is a derivative of the brand’s compact car model. In essence, it’s a station wagon version of the A4 sedan riding on a taller suspension and wearing SUV styling cues.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2021, Audi updates the A4 Allroad’s powertrain with a 12-volt mild hybrid setup that adds a bit of power.
Komfort trim adds wireless Apple CarPlay and lane departure warning as standard, and the top-end Technik model gets new rear-seat USB charging ports.
Available Trims
Audi offers the A4 Allroad in Komfort, Progressiv and Technik trim levels. All use the same mild hybrid powertrain, which is built around a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. All A4 Allroad models are standard with Audi’s Quattro AWD system.
Standard Features
The A4 Allroad Komfort comes dressed with 18-inch wheels, heated/power-adjustable side mirrors, power tailgate, all-weather lights, LED headlights and taillights, engine auto start/stop, aluminum roof rails, and high-gloss window trim.
Inside, Komfort trim is equipped with a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, Bluetooth, panoramic sunroof, a colour driver info display, 10-speaker stereo with USB input and satellite radio, power-adjustable/heated front seats with driver lumbar, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, heated front seats, push-button ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Standard safety features include city-speed forward collision detection with automatic braking, rear-end collision preparation, an exit warning system, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure warning.
Progressiv trim adds hands-free tailgate operation, virtual cockpit digital gauge cluster, integrated garage door remote, automatic high beams, rear cross traffic alert, a heated steering wheel, passive keyless entry, power-folding side mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, driver’s seat memory, aluminum interior trim, and navigation.
Technik trim’s additions include a unique wheel design, heated rear seats, top-view camera, LED matrix headlights, a Bang & Olufsen stereo, headlight washers, ambient interior lighting with custom colour selection, and rear-seat USB charging ports.
Key Options
Komfort trim offers a Convenience package of parking sensors, a heated steering wheel, driver’s seat memory, passive keyless entry, auto-dimming side mirrors, and rear cross traffic alert.
Progressiv and Technik can be optioned with a number of packages. They start with a Sport pack of 19-inch wheels, black headliner, trimaran aluminum interior trim, and sport front seats with passenger lumbar. This can be augmented with a comfort combo of ventilated front seats and rear side sun shades, which can also be had without the sport package.
Finally, an Advanced Driver Assistance bundle brings adaptive cruise control, traffic congestion assist, active lane assist, all-speed collision detection and avoidance, traffic sign recognition, and hands-on detection.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Audi hasn’t published fuel consumption ratings for the 2021 A4 Allroad. They should be similar to those for last year’s car – 10.0/7.4 L/100 km (city/highway) – but we’ll update this when Audi updates its info for the new hybrid drivetrain.
Competition
The Audi A4 Allroad’s closest competitor is Volvo’s V60 Cross Country, which, similarly, starts out as a compact wagon that is dressed up like a crossover SUV. Mercedes-Benz makes wagon versions of its C- and E-Class models, but these are straight-up cars with no SUV pretense.
